How
do I prepare PowerPoint slides for video?
To
prepare your PowerPoint slides for video,
follow these helpful hints.
- Before creating
your PowerPoint presentation, change
the slide set-up (under the File menu
option) to a custom size whose width
is 10 inches and whose length is 6.667
inches.
- Use backgrounds
whose colours are not oversaturated
(i.e., bright blues, cyan's, or magentas).
For the most part, darker
backgrounds work best, when
tastefully contrasted text and images
are overlaid over top.
- A wide variety
of suitable backgrounds are already
included with Microsoft PowerPoint,
and can be accessed via the "Tools
® Apply Design Template"
menu.
- Avoid
backgrounds that have complex
textures and patterns, as
they have a
tendency to make the slide busy, and
they may shimmer when transferred
to video.
- Avoid
the use of fine lines,
as they may be lost or will display
a distorted image when played through
a television monitor.
- Minimum 2
pixil width.
- Graphs are
typically a problem.
- Leave an approximate
¾ - 1 inch margin around
the entire slide to compensate for
the video safe area on a television
monitor.
- Make sure to keep
all text at least 21 pts
or larger. Avoid using san serif fonts,
if possible.
- Once presentation
is completed, preview the slide you
wish to capture in the 'Slide
Show' view.
- Select
'Ctrl' & 'PrintScrn'
on the keyboard (This places the screen
capture onto the computers virtual
clipboard).
- Open Photoshop
and choose 'New'
file under the 'File'
menu option.
- Paste
in the screen capture into this new
document by choosing 'Paste' under
the 'Edit' menu option.
- Make
sure to resize the image to the correct
dimensions required (720X486).
